Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia NT

Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia NT is a not-for profit, non-government organisation, committed to supporting people living with a mental illness and their family and friends.

Friends and family members who care for people with mental illness do a remarkable job, and significantly contribute, often without thanks, to our community. Statistically, Carers are more likely to suffer deterioration in their own physical and mental health, due to their 24-7 devotion to the person they care for. Unfortunately, “burn out” for Carers is a common scenario. Community support through planned respite, peer support groups, one-on-one support and education have all been shown to be effective services to help support Carers to continue doing what they do best.

We have an Individual Recovery Program for consumers. Our aim is to increase the opportunities for recovery for people whose lives are affected by mental illness by assisting a person to identify & develop their goals & strengths, we then work alongside the person to assist them to achieve those goals & assist the participant to help them overcome social isolation and increase their connections within the community by increasing the participants personal capacity and self reliance.

We also run two recreational programs for people living with a mental illness. Mi Place is a drop in and activities center, running every weekday, which provides lunch and a great sense of community.
The Cool Program runs in conjunction to Mi Place and offers recreational activities Tuesdays and Saturdays every week.
